Our Culinary Arts Program provides students with hands-on experience in a professional kitchen setting, equipping them with essential cooking skills and industry knowledge. This two-semester program (Year 1 & Year 2) focuses on safety, sanitation, teamwork, and technical proficiency while introducing students to real-world kitchen operations.
Students work in kitchen stations to prepare a variety of recipes, contributing to a menu served to the school population at lunch. This experience helps develop practical skills, time management, and creativity while offering insight into career opportunities in the hospitality and food service industry.
As part of the program, students will earn their Alberta Food Safety Certificate, a valuable credential for working in the food industry. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to write the 1st Year Cook Apprenticeship Exam, providing a head start for those interested in pursuing a career as a cook or chef.
By the end of the program, students will have gained confidence in the kitchen, developed strong culinary techniques, and explored pathways toward future careers in the culinary arts. Whether they aspire to become professional chefs or simply want to enhance their cooking abilities, this program provides a strong foundation for success.
