I am a very cheeky cat! I am excellent at keeping myself hidden in my environment. Since I hunt primarily at night, I typically hide during the day in spooky tunnels or hidden holes. My camouflage fur allows me to stay hidden in places like short plants! Usually, when I refer to "short plants," I don't mean genuinely short! It's only short for you massive people. I'm so small! I can hide almost anyplace I choose because I am 20 cm tall and 30 cm wide. I would be the unbeaten champion in hide and seek if I were to play!
I don't go on routes that other animals take, and that's another reason it's rare to ever see me. I make my own sneaky ways, going through obstacles that no other animal can do as good as me. You could think of me as a “leader”. I am so tiny that gives me an advantage to be pretty much invisible to other animals in my niche. Which is pretty cool right? I can walk on sand in front of or close to other animals without them hearing me because of my soft paws.
What makes me a unique cat is the fact that I have zero predators, because of my pro hiding skills no animal can find me in the first place.
After reading all of this, I know what you're thinking: "Why is this black-footed cat bragging so much?!" because I am worthy of bragging! I am the best animal March animal madness ever had! What are you waiting for? Put the black-footed cat in the lead!
I peer from the canopy, hidden in the leaves. Jumping branch to branch I study my prey, waiting to strike; the gaur drinks from the stream below, while I observe from above. Every gulp going through my ears, I feel every blade of grass move. Every drop of water plop. Froliking deer. Chirping birds. Howling monkeys. Every. Noise. In. The. Jungle. I listen to every factor that could alter the outcome.
I look for the opening, just waiting for the muscular Gaur to raise his neck. All it takes is a fraction of a second to make my move. A fraction of a second to end the life of that tiger killing beast. The window opens, his horns facing the opposite direction. I release my winded legs, firing me out of the canopy. Mid-air I direct myself toward a rock near the Gaur. Landing with thunder, I pounce onto the Gaur, sinking my fangs into its throat. I step back as it suffocates. He dies once I rip a chunk out of its muscly flesh. Hoisting it up, back into the canopy, where I feast.
My padded paws move on the soil with purpose
My claws so effortlessly grip on to the rough bark.
I walk and crawl in my world knowing I am the elite within the jungle
The art of camouflage is not just about appearances, It's a mental game of chess.
the jungle teaches me respect for the diversity of camouflage
I am the canvas to the world I live in. My stunning rose-like spots are to be stared at in awe.
My tan fur adds to the complexion of the tall furrow trees.
My spotted fur is my armor. My prey can not differentiate between myself and the dusky palette of the jungle
When my world meets the edge of a river I am aware that I share my world with a crocodile
My meal is in plain sight, I cannot stop this urge to fight.
The crocodile is a relic from a different realm, It lays motionlessly unaware of my company
I become the jungle, I move seamlessly yet the crocodile is absent-minded
I sleekly lurk between trees where I can see the whole world, But no one can see me.
My keen eyes stay glued to the crocodile, Waiting patiently for the precise moment to strike.
I pay no attention to the crocodile protecting the edge of its property, My claws tingle at the thought of its scaly weave being scrunched by my claws.
It turns away, I pounce at him.
“Sqwelp!” Blood running red and strong on my nails, His life soon to be gone.
SNAP! SNAP! The twigs crunch under my padded feet, but my true abilities are yet to be known. The shouts of at least ten humans chasing me drown out, as I jump and leap from the trees. I am the supreme animal of this forest, but these pesky humans still chase me, longing to get a grasp of my beautiful fur. I’m scared. My sharp claws dig into the branches beneath me, my long and strong tail keeping me steady. I can’t shake them off! The thoughts and images of them catching me filled my mind. I’m terrified. The grunting of the weird machines they’re riding fills my mind once again. This is it, it’s the end!
But as my mind begins to fog and the thoughts of getting captured fill my mind once again; a slight glimmer of hope makes its way to me. The sun is setting! The fog resided and hope rushed back into me. The sun was finally setting, night was on the horizon, and it was my time to shine. In a few minutes, darkness will spill into the forest, disguising my every move. And that will be it for those pesky humans.
My body automatically reacted to the coming moments, my feet became lighter and quieter, my legs running faster and faster. It will be much easier to lose them now, their small sticks of light could never make me out in the void of the forest. I steered away from my original path and ran, my every move concealed. I climbed down a tree head-first and climbed back up to a bigger one, hiding in its damp leaves and branches. The only thing left to do is win, because that’s what I do, I win.
