I approach the snake; it seems like it's another black mamba. Since we are so strong, I would prefer to prevent any sort of battle. It appears that he’s not planning to attack. From his careful nature, many thoughts surged through my brain. If we the Black Mamba teamed up to hunt prey it would be miles more efficient and easier.
“Hey, you, what are you doing here?” I asked, as I carefully slither closer. I don’t want to seem too nice and I need to keep up my guard just in case, I’ll be aggressive if the opportunity shows itself.
“Seeking prey, I’m trying to impress a girl I found; she's waiting for me back at home,”
Speechless… A girl. All these thoughts of hunting together were scrapped.
“So, you have stumbled across a female black mamba. I only managed to find males that are just focused on hunting,” I said lying straight out of my mouth, knowing that I was just one of them. I’m just trying to be friendly to win over the girl.
“Yeah, met her a few hundred meters south, said she was starving and in need of food,”
“So she's just waiting for you now,” I respond.
“Yeah basically,” he answers. Time passes, and it seems he doesn’t care about me. He has just revealed her location. Since she's starving, I plan to take a page out of his book and find prey for her. Thankfully, if it was any other Black Mamba we would most likely get into a full-on brawl.
“Squeeeek!” I hear the rustling of what seems like a mouse. Our eyes lock. We each pounce at the mouse but I’m faster.
“Waiiittttt where are you going, give it to ME!” he says as we both race towards the girl.
“Never. How brainless. How dull-brained. How foolish and empty-headed are you revealing her location. I will win her over, and there's nothing you can do about it,” I retort.
“Please, you can’t do this, I’m so lonely and I have nothing going for me.” He ever so sadly responds. What a weirdo, but I suffer no remorse for people as desperate as him. I quickly speed along, and I spot her, waiting. Starving. I drop the mouse, next to her. Her smile widens as she swiftly devours the mouse. She looks satisfied.
“Thank you. What's your name?” she asks me. Shell-shocked, discombobulated… I look away and start gradually retreating and she follows. I have found a hunting partner. No, I have found an actual partner, maybe even a mating partner.
It's Summer now, she lays her eggs. As we leave them, hoping we meet again.
