# 1 Seed
The Whooping Crane has feathers adapted for flying. A type of feather called contour feathers, which are for their flying ability. Their flying feathers (a.k.a contour feathers) are strong, light, and stiff. They cover the bird's outer surface. These protect itself from the sun, wind, and rain. And they give the bird it's shape and colour.
The Whooping Crane has long skinny legs to stand in high water and not get their feathers wet. The elongated legs help them balance while flying.
