Describe how your organism is adapted to survive in its environment (this may include camouflage, hunting, movement or something else!) They inhabit 3 of the 4 Japanese islands. They weigh 25 to 40 pounds. The size of the snow monkey varies by the region it lives in. They prefer to live in cold snowy areas and don't like to live near humans or captivity. They are the smartest species of monkey because they learn new skills easily and share them with others in their troop. This could mean they could easily adapt to human inference because these primates learn new skill easily. They also clean their food in water before eating. snow monkey soak in hot springs because they observed and watch humans do it. They have strong bonds and are very playful with members of their troop. Snow monkeys are omnivores meaning they eat both meat and plants. These primates communicate with each other using verbal sounds, facial expressions and attitudes, just like humans many. it has been observed that these primates verbal sounds are different in every region like the human language. Their troop has a male and female leader; males hold dominance by showing strength and ability to find food, while female hold dominance by inheriting the ruling position from mother or relatives. The higher ranking monkeys are allowed to bathe or swim in hot springs while the lower one can't.
Describe the relative abundance of your organism...is it threatened? Endangered? Extirpated from an area?
The snow monkey or Japanese macaques is a animal that is not endangered. It's population is currently stable, but it has decreased based on past numbers. It's mainly threaten by habit loss, deforestation and killing(farmers consider them a pest because they destroy crops).
Describe the niche of your organism
Snow monkey's are secondary consumers because they are omnivores, they hunt small animal and gather grains, fruits and veggietable. They prefer to live in cold snowy areas of japan, mostly mountain ranges. Wolfs are kind of the only like that hunt and eat it. It's sort of a narrow niche mammal.
Is your organism a GENERALIST or a SPECIALIST ? Provide a map that illustrates you know the difference between these two term.
Our specie is a generalist because it has easily adapted to both human and environmental changes. They learned many skills by observing humans and other members of the troop.
How has genetic variation enabled your organism to survive in its envirnment
One of the smartest primates on the planet; the snow monkey has the ability to learn from other monkeys and other species. An example of this behavior was first seen at the ‘ryokan’ greenhouses in japan, the monkeys observed humans bathing in the hot springs. Shortly after the monkeys were sen doing it too.
Describe your organism’s ability to adapt to changes in the environment (Describe what ‘change’ is ACTUALLY occurring in the environment!). Is it human caused? Natural? Be specific!
The snow monkey has difficultly living near humans because it's always warm near human and the snow monkeys don't like it. One way they can adapt to change is learn new skills. Snow monkey's wash their food because they learned it tstes better that way.
Describe any “defenses” your organism may have against predators and/or how your organism attacks its prey/gets its food
The snow monkey mostly gathers it's food like potatoes, grains and other veggies. They also eat insects, steal other animals eggs and eat smaller animals like rodents.
The Snow monkey's live in the Japanese mountains ranges.
