This Round's Question...
Good Luck to all! Happy learning!
My dark haired stomach is suddenly rumbling. I’m getting hungry. I guess it's time for another feast. I decide to catch some fish and insects to get rid of my hunger. I look around for wood and stocks that can help me. I spot a thin and long stick under a tree. I pick it up and use my teeth to shape it so that it’s perfect for catching some yummy insects off the soil. I bend down and sit and put the stick against the muddy ground and wait for some insects to crawl up the tool I’ve made. I see some tiny ants slowly making their way to the top of the tool. I think I have enough ants now, so I pick up the stick and lick off the ants on it. This much food isn't enough to make me full. I get up and head towards the vibrant coloured trees where I can grab some healthy and juicy fruits. Not so far away, I see an apple tree. It is summer right now but I am thankful that apples can grow in all temperatures. Humans are exceedingly lucky to have any fruit they like all year around. And we’re stuck here with whatever grows during a specific season. I jump and get a hold of a strong branch on a moderately tall tree. I reach for an apple that looks super delicious. I get back on the ground and pop the apple into my dry mouth. The juice of the apple makes me quite happy. I wish I had my troop mates with me right now, I would be able to go for a quick hunt with a few of them providing safety. But since they are not here right now, it is not safe for me to hunt for monkeys and pigs because predators can be around the area. I think I’m still down for some more food today. Specifically nuts, and I know exactly where to find them. I swiftly climb up the tree where I will find everything I want. I snatch some leaves off the green tree, gathering the nuts together. Since I was blessed with my intelligent mind, I know exactly what to do. The only way to break this extremely hard nut shell is with a rock. I brush away fallen leaves and broken twigs from the forest floor, and place my nut on the ground. Seizing the rock, I swing down once. Then I swing down twice. The shell is cracked. I happily consume my fresh kola nut. My stomach is completely full. I do feel a bit thirsty. The cold fresh river water always feels so refreshing, so I decide to take some water home. I pick up a few leaves off the ground. I put them in the water, soaking them fully. I chew them rapidly and swallow all the water that was soaked up. I have never felt something more pleasant go down my throat.
This active lemur will blow your mind! Their thick rustic red and black fur fur allows them to keep warm during the winter. Now that’s what I call a coat! Their hands are so tiny but can do so much! When they climb thanks to their long broad fingers they don’t make a sound, this helps when they are hiding from predators. To protect themselves, they have scent glands on the top of their rump to identify other animals. They rely on other animals such as birds and more social lemurs by alarming them or making a sound to evade predators. Did you know that the females are in charge of the males and are kinda like the bosses of them. Reminds us of our own households. Their sharp teeth are designed in such a way so they optimize their meals. Did we mention that these animals are clean freaks? They are strictly clean and will comb themselves with their front teeth on the bottom jaw and will angle slightly to create a dental comb, then they will slide their dental comb through their furry hair and remove any loose hair that they have. Now that’s what we call a clean animal! We don’t know about your animal, but does your animal have two tongues like the red ruffed lemur? Yeah you heard me, two tongues! Red ruffed lemurs have a main tongue just for eating and they have a second tongue under the first and that is only used for removing hair. We could go on and on about what the Red ruffed lemurs could do but these structural and behavioural adaptations really stand out in a way that makes Red Ruffed lemurs way more unique than other animals. So what are you waiting for, don’t be shy, vote for us.:)
ROUND 3-" Which organism has the BEST adaptations and behaviors for obtaining food and ingesting it?"
Welcome to A. Blair McPherson School's March Mammal Madness! We appreciate you helping out in selecting the organism that has adaptations that enable it to rule over all! This is a student project that helps us learn more about Biodiversity. Students selected their organism, researched about adaptations, its niche and more! Each round will have a different question. Please select the organism whose description BEST answers the question!
Thank you for participating! You may only vote ONCE per account, but you can vote as often as you are able!
Happy learning!
