This Round's Question...
Good Luck to all! Happy learning!
The camouflage that the ocelots use is called background matching. Ocelots live in thick vegetation and dense rain forests that have lots of trees and bushes, which helps them hide from their prey while they stalk and hunt during night. The ocelots have two stripes running from the top of the eye to the head. They have black and dark brown spots that are like circles with a light brown or tan dot in the middle. The ocelot’s unique spotted coat is very useful for them because it helps them in many different ways. Like for example, the spotted coat helps them camouflage and blend into the leaves and bushes. It also helps protect the ocelot from other animals and predators as it sleeps during the day.
In the shade under the canopies of the large forest trees, protecting you from the burning hot sun. The Black Jaguar will be hidden in dark shady creverses of the rainforest. With its dark black coat keeping him hidden when predators are finding breakfast. The Black Jaguar stays hidden in the high branches of the shady trees. While he gazes upon prey. Like the Ocelot, who has a warm golden coat with dark black spots. The Black Jaguar sharp eyes don't leave the Ocelot in the distance, who seems to not notice the Black Jaguar hidden in the tree. Yes, the spots help him in the light of the day, but not for long when the hot sun rays feed on the energy of the Ocelots. When the Ocelot will go, rest under the shade of the substantial trees, while the black jaguar travels from tree to tree unnoticed, planning an attack from the top.
The dark sky eats away at the light. Perfect time for the Black Jaguar to get food. The Jaguar will get around the musky cold rainforest with a dark bleak coat blending him into the dark of the night. Finding its prey unnoticed. Its dark black coat helps him to be hidden from unwanted predators. Its claws help him to be quiet. This can help him find prey like Ocelots who don't have the swarthy coats to be hidden in the dark of the night. The Ocelot’s dark spots make it clear in the moonlight, which is a benefit for the Jaguar to find his prey. An attack from the top is waiting to be set
Target locked.
Among the golden grass appears a lone porcupine. Snacking on some dry shrubs, oblivious to its surroundings. Little did the poor porcupine know they were about to become a tasty snack. About 30 minutes ago the porcupine was targeted by the sharp sight of a Kalahari lion, one of its most important senses. Due to its outstanding camouflage the lion is hidden meticulously well in its environment. It’s golden brown fur blending perfectly with the light brown shade of the desert. The cat's black mane appeared exactly like a rock in the distance. The lion is unseen. Now the Kalahari lion is inching closer and closer to its meal. Its heavy coat of fur still hidden in the tall grass. Crack, the porcupine looks up. Suspicious of the situation, the future snack starts to move. Not too fast. Pounch, the lion leaps towards its prey. Tearing at its flesh.
Sadly the porcupine didn’t see it coming all because of CAMOUFLAGE.
I am in fact a very good hide and seek player as my one of a kind couloured and elegant fur is a perfect match for my environment as its a very rocky terrain. I will sit upon my mountain waiting for my prey to walk right in front of me not being able to see me then… I pounce! If you escape or even if I fall no worries I'll just climb back up with ease as I have 1.5 inch claws and hind legs along with my thick, long tail helping me with my balance . I like to hide. I find it entertaining watching my prey run far distances than them not seeing me. They dont where I am. It's too easy for me... almost effortless. That's how I hide in MY mountains. By the way you should Vote for me if you love your family
Imagine being the king of your jungle and being the slowest can't relate what's the kalahari lion gonna do chase me lol what are they gonna do if I run down a mountain, fall and probably die *sigh* their acctually dumb. I bet you $500 that you can't find me in this picture below. In 10 seconds I am the best camouflaged in the Himalayas! My impeccable spotted fur makes me blend in with my rocky surroundings amazingly. I’ve seen many pictures of how otherworldly my camouflage is. I’ve heard about the Kalahari Lion and it’s camouflage. It's nowhere near as great as mine. If i was in the area the Kalahari Lion is in, I would see it from miles away
I live in an open area, grasslands and wetlands. It's a good place to hide with all the tall grass around me.No fear of getting spotted by other predators like the puma or domestic dogs, the only animals that can harm me. There are many places for me to hide and also wait for food to come running by me and pounce on it. The tall grass provides the best hiding spots for me, but if spotted by a predator I can run a top speed of 75kph. That's the fastest on our continent. I'm the biggest animal in south america, I use camouflage to hide in the tall dark grass they blend in with my black legs so it's really hard to see me in there, since i have long legs i can also look over the tall grass to see if there are any predators in the area. I don't stay in one place for a long time, I keep moving and hide in the tall grass when i'm tired. The reason why I'm better than the rest of the animals is when I hide in the tall dark grass where I totally disappear, unable to be seen. I have lots of food around me like rodents, birds and reptiles. Not like other animals where they need to go out of their safe place and find food. I have everything right here

A vast blanket of fog hung in the air heavy over the wilderness. It suffocated every plant and tree, swallowing every distant object and vanishing around every corner. The grey wolf creeps around his predators, its silent footsteps tiptoeing through the wilderness, keeping a watchful eye on its prey and most importantly, predators!
Keep in mind that each organism has the will to survive. Eventually, at some time of its life, it has to struggle for life. The wolves, in the past, have been through alot, which has helped them adapt. The wolf is an exceptionally fast sprinter and it participates in group behavior, increasing their probability of survival against animals such as bears, tigers, leopards, foxes and many more. Your question right now is probably the ‘how’! Well, agility is often used in the sense of danger. Therefore, if danger drives upon the grey wolf , which usually doesn’t happen because it is at the top of its food chain, it can use its speed to get away from it.
Now, how does group behaviour increase the probability of survival? Similar to human beings, wolves have figured out many benefits to living in a group. They can, more effectively, defend their territory, raise families, take down challenging prey, and most importantly, distribute food evenly throughout themselves. This is how the gray wolf survives/hides within its environment.
As I wake up at the break of dawn I look around for any source of food in burrows and around me. But as I wander the grasslands there are always prey looking for me. Luckily my reddish fur coat helps me blend in with my surroundings like bushes or small trees so it will be harder for hyenas or jackals to spot me. But even though my red fur isn't perfect for all scenarios, I can hear everything coming at me from six miles away so I am alarmed before anything can get close.
The lynx is amazing at how it can camouflage in various different circumstances and places. There can be a galore of colours the lynx can be which makes it very easy for the lynx to hide in tons of different places. There are very unique areas the lynx can camouflage in which is really cool because you will be surprised by some of the locations. The lynx doesn't typically like people so the chances of you seeing them are very very rare. It can camouflage in most of the natural habitats like forests, fields, mountains and snow. There are not many left in the wild which makes them very scarce and hard to find. The reason this animal is so good at hiding is because it’s colour makes it very hard to find. If you look at the picture it took us 45 minutes to find the lynx in the picture.
Nobody can see me in my home of tall grasses. I use my bright orange and black striped patterns to stalk on my prey, I wait until I get as close as possible to my prey so they have less time to react and take them down in one go. I have to watch my back 24/7 because poachers are very interested in my body parts. I am blessed with the powers that god has given to us, my ears and nose are highly developed and I use them to stay away from predators. There’s one thing that you all don’t know about me, my EYES are an X-ray machine especially at night I can see a rat from miles away. My eyesight is 6 times better than a humans and also I can measure the distance between me and the prey. This is all the abilities that help me execute my attack without them knowing that I am around them.#SAVE TIGERS
The marvelous brown rat has an amazing way of blending into the environment by hiding from its predators because its body is very small and it's only 28 cm long. The brown rat has a very large niche and can live almost everywhere except for Antarctica, they can live in urban areas, the wild and many more environments. The brown rat has brown fur as the name infers so in urban areas they can hide in plain sight and not be found by its prey. The brown rat also has a very flexible skull therefore this allows them to crawl through spaces that most animals cannot get too, this means the rat has adapted its body overtime to humans building walls and buildings allowing it to live in walls of building for long periods of time.
The brown rat has an advantage over the Bengal tiger and the Iberian Lynx because the norway rat can be invisible due to the colour of its fur, it has excellent camouflage by being so small and having a brown coloured coat. Another one of the brown rats abilities are having really good hearing, therefore the brown rat could hear their predators from far away so they could quickly burrow underground or hide in logs or blend into the ground or environment.
They can camouflage with their skin/fur colors.
ROUND 1 -" Which organism has the BEST hiding adaptation?"
Welcome to A. Blair McPherson School's March Mammal Madness! We appreciate you helping out in selecting the organism that has adaptations that enable it to rule over all! This is a student project that helps us learn more about Biodiversity. Students selected their organism, researched about adaptations, its niche and more! Each round will have a different question. Please select the organism whose description BEST answers the question!
