Well well, we're having a closer look at biographies and historical figures this month in our library, so.....is there a better way to celebrate that than with The Crown? I don't think so!
The first season of this critically acclaimed series focuses on none other than Queen Elizabeth II as a young newlywed faced with leading the world's most famous, or notorious, monarchy. At the same time she's asked to forge a relationship with the legendary Sir Winston Churchill at a time when the British Empire is not exactly at its peak and the political scene in disarray.
If you're interested in history, but you also enjoy a bit of drama, this series is for you. The cast is simply superb, no wonder many of its actors have won multiple awards, and the scripts are well-written and compelling. For those of you who are pretty skeptical because you want nothing more than the true events and historical accuracy, just give it a try and you may be surprised. In fact what stands out the most is the attention to detail as far as scripts, cinematography and lighting are concerned.
Obviously, some of you will already know what is going to happen, don't think for a minute though that the show is not engaging. It might not be action packed and keeping you on your toes at all times, but it still manages to feel gripping and absolutely bingeable.
And for those "lucky" ones who don't know the story, well I envy you because I had to learn history the hard way and you've got it so much easier with this show. So, what do you think, will you be paying a visit to our library to start The Crown?
P.s please don't say "but this is not a film!". We're well aware of that, but this year we'll be introducing series as well as films! Enjoy!
