Have you ever seen birds that gracefully stand in shallow water? Those birds have feet specially adapted for wading.
Birds like herons and flamingos have feet that are perfect for wading. Three long front toes and one long back toe spread out to help them balance in mud or uneven earth. Long stilt-like legs let them look down into the water. This helps them as they hunt for fish, insects, or small creatures in ponds and wetlands.
Herons, with their long legs and wading feet, stand patiently in the water, waiting for a fish to swim by. Their feet are stealthy fishing tools, allowing them to move quietly and strike swiftly when the perfect meal comes into view.
Flamingos, with their pink feathers and elegant postures, also have wading feet. Their long, thin legs and webbed toes help them walk in shallow lakes and lagoons.
