World History

This survey course of World History covers the five major religions of the world and then begins with the Royal Powers of the 15th century and carries through to modern period. This course places and emphasis on the western narrative with aspects of the eastern world interspersed within the curriculum. The course covers ten units, with five in the first semester and the remainder in the second semester. This course accentuates art movements from the respective time periods and requires a high level of reading and writing to be successful.

AP World History

The AP World History course focuses on developing students’ understanding of world history from approximately 8000 B.C.E. to present. The course has students investigate the content of world history for significant events, individuals, developments, and processes in six historical periods, and develop and use the same thinking skills and methods employed by historians when they study the past. The course also provides five themes that the students explore throughout the course in order to make connections among historical developments in different times and places encompassing the five major geographical regions of the globe: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

U.S. History

US History provides a one-year survey of American history starting from Reconstruction to the present day, with an emphasis on the twentieth century. Using portions of the textbook and primary documents and current events, students learn about the various political, social, religious, and economic developments that have shaped and continue to shape the United States. Essay writing and critical thinking are emphasized as integral ways of understanding how the past relates to the present and future.

AP US History

The following synopsis of AP U.S. History are provided by the College Board. In addition to offering college credit, AP U.S. History fulfills the Englewood School District requirements for U.S. History credits. “The AP program in the United States History is designed to provide students with the analytical skills and enduring understandings necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in United States history. The program prepares students for intermediate and advanced college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to those made by full-year introductory college courses.”

Psychology

Psychology is the study of thinking and behavior. The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Psychology is a thought provoking class; tenth and eleventh grade students whose interest are peaked and want to further study psychology often take AP Psychology the next year.

AP Psychology

It is an expectation of this course that all students enrolled take the AP exam. The primary emphasis of this course is to prepare students to take the Advanced Placement Exam in Psychology. This class will provide students with a learning experience equivalent to that obtained in most college introductory psychology courses. Strong reading skills are a must. This course may not be offered every school year. Student interest and teacher availability will dictate how frequently this AP course will be offered.
