This short online course will build your coding skills while we explore the broad scope and application of Scientific Computing. The goal of the course is to experience the fun of coding and the problem-solving process while learning how engineers and scientists use these tools in their jobs everyday. You will learn new commands and acquire digital tools for solving problems, giving you marketable skills for future jobs and internships.
The Course is designed for delivery as interactive modules of 2-4 hours duration each
Each module on this site includes several slides or short videos to learn content .
You will also practice coding questions using Trinket windows embedded within each module.
To assess your comprehension of the module material, you will complete short auto-graded quizzes.
Each week, you may join an optional live help session with Engineering Tomorrow engineers and college mentors to get answers to your questions. This is welcome to you at any stage you are at in the modules!
At the completion of each module, you will use Google Colab as your workspace to practice writing code and you will turn in your link to Colab workbook via a form at the last section of each module. You will need a Google account to access Colab. The first 6 min of this video provide a good introduction to Colab.
Each module has a list of skills learned. These can be added to your toolkit and your resume.
As a culminating assignment for this class, you will design your own short project based on your interests and present your project to instructors in a live session to showcase your new skills.
Mindset: Don’t Be Discouraged with Code Errors
Code never runs correctly the first time.
You will develop skills on how to troubleshoot and debug code while identifying errors and fixing them.
This class is a foundation for lifelong learning, so have fun!
