UC San Diego needs your help! With the increasing student population, UCSD must plan for the projected growth and everything that comes with it — additional housing, academic facilities, services, and more. The university’s enrollment hit a record of nearly 43,000 in the fall, but can currently house about 18,000 students. The Pepper Canyon West Living and Learning Neighborhood (PCWLLN) will add more than 5,000 beds and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024. With the current rate of all the construction happening on campus, PCWLLN is likely to open in the fall of 2025! Because UCSD is expected to hit a new enrollment record in fall 2023, we need you to build a robot that can help make this build happen by the upcoming fall. Your job, as a team, is to design, test, analyze, fabricate, and deploy your robot to pick up I-beams from different locations around campus, and stack them on Pepper Canyon ground.
Contest Description:
Two robots will compete head-to-head for 60 seconds. Robots will try to score as many points as possible, by gathering the I-beams and stacking them on Pepper Canyon ground. Based on the relative difficulty to retrieve the different I-beams, certain ones are worth more than others. In order to reduce the workload of our already tired construction workers, more points will be awarded for I-beams stacked to higher stories. All scoring will be done at the completion of the contest after all parts have finished moving. Read the details of points below, and set your priorities straight when grabbing those I-beams!
