Interstellar is being rereleased in IMAX on December 6th, and the MAE department needs help to celebrate the occasion! Interstellar explores the vastness of the universe in an effort to save humanity, leading to the discovery of a massive black hole. Throughout the film, the concept of gravity plays a massive role in helping our protagonists. In the MAE 3 Fall 2024 Robot Contest, Interstellar Roundup, you are tasked with designing, analyzing, building, and testing a robot to play the role of gravity to collect astrological debris into the black hole at the center of the contest table!
Contest Description:
Two teams will compete head-to-head for 60 seconds to collect and deliver the most objects to the scoring zones in the center of the contest table. Different objects will have different point values based on both their quantity as well as starting location on the table. Each table will have 2 types of scoring zones: a large “singularity” in the middle of the table where both teams may deposit objects, and its surrounding “event horizon”, where teams will battle for control. All scoring will be completed at the end of the contest after all parts have finished moving.
