Balloon Drop
Planning and Brainstorming Ideas:
Pugh Chart
Our Design:
Three 20- straw layers to absorb the shock of the drop attached with tape
The layers are stacked tall enough so that the nails cannot touch the balloon vertically.
Two 20- straw layers with the sides were folded up to keep the balloon contained.
Straws were taped above the balloon to prevent it from jumping out.
Our Design- key element
25 coffee stirrers weaved together
Attached on the bottom by weaving the ends into the straws
made sure the nails were not able of cutting through all the straws
By the end there were some holes in it, but it was mostly intact
nails punctured through straws not weave
Results - 2 feet
balloon initially survived the drop
Did not fasten it into the contraption well
Balloon bounced out and popped on the nails
Added straws on top to keep the balloon in place
Balloon survived the drop
Basket slid at the end, which needed to be fixed

Results- 4 feet
Previous 4 ft attempts had popped because the balloon fell on its side
Added a parachute
Still tilted slightly
Balloon survived

Results - 6 feet
Because of the height we added air filled balloons to absorb the shock
Survived the drop but we did not fasten into the contraption well
Added more straws to fasten the balloon
Did not give balloon enough space to move
Broke on impact when bounced
6 feet drop was never successful
