Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
For design, the two scalpel designs and the blade holding mechanism were all made and presented to the sponsor on 4/9/2018. Adjustments and new design concepts would be considered in Week 2.
For Fabrication, prototypes were made through 3D printing on 4/9/2018. Parameter mistakes were noticed, which delayed physical analysis process. The team will meet on 4/11/2018 morning for another prototype.
Analysis, testing, and further design progress will be made in Week 2.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Blade clamping products were purchased and studied.
CAD for blade holding mechanism was done and potential material was determined (Aluminum or steel that can be autoclaved)
The first draft of prototypes was made.
Met with the sponsor for design feedback.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Come up with updated design and prototypes for scalpels. (William and Raymond)
Improve blade holding mechanism design and make analysis regarding constraint and usability. (Tianyi)
Prepare for Week 3 design proposal. (All members)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor emphasized the necessity for blade cutting length ( The external portion of the blade needs to be long enough for cutting). Such comment requires the balance between stability and usability, where further adjustments on the scalpel designs need to be made in next week. (4/9/2018 from Dr. Lin)
Durability was also restated, which should receive more attention in the analysis process. (4/9/2018 from Dr. Lin)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Look at examples of clamping designs. (4/4/2018 from Prof. Delson)
Different blade clamping products were purchased and analyzed in the past week.
Slides require more transparent component graph for better understanding. (4/4/2018 from Prof. Delson)
Action: Added additional transparent view in PowerPoint slides
The website requires further update and photos need to be added. (4/4/2018 from Prof. Delson)
Action: Updated background portion. More to be added.
