Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Continuing on path of new design
separate heating containers for milk and water
separate heating components for brewing container
trying magnetic stirring
also trying the pot minder
Shielding gate valve
no powder delivery or milk delivery system (user inputted)
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Off-the-shelf components purchased (containers, filters, heating, coffee makers)
looking into and purchasing necessary heating elements
testing current heating element
water flow testing (temperature at outlet tests)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Re-testing flow rate with new parts
re-confirm whether it is hot enough, and what the temperature will be from heating
assemble a magnetic stirrer
using motor and a magnet
calculate and test the strength of the solenoid
necessary for opening and closing gate valve (prevent oversteeping)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
1/9/2016
Design solution has changed to more of a coffee maker-type product
not using milk or spice dispensers anymore
user inputs desired amount of milk and spice as opposed to everything automatic
1/9/2016 actions taken
started researching into new design/finding proper components
still using gate valve to prevent oversteeping
user will have measuring cup for their milk included in product, user can use their own measuring cups for spice and tea (usually one teaspoon each)
1/16/16
what components to buy for testing
sponsors worried about time left over because the first prototype (the previous 156b group) took about 4 weeks just troubleshooting
1/16/16 actions taken
already sent first round of purchases to project manager (Anand), he has amazon prime and all our parts are prime eligible so we should get it soon
on track for our gantt chart, will be able to devote a lot of time when the parts arrive (in about two days)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Professor says to communicate clearly and explicitly with the sponsors, document all scope changes
all changes are made to gantt chart and are approved by their project manager to make sure that we are all on the same page
constant communication over whatsapp group message with their team (they recently added their electrical engineers on the group message so we can communicate with them as well)
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
may need to allocate more time for construction and trouble shooting (sponsors are very concerned)
Resources or Information Required but not Available
will call manufacturers of coffee makers we bought to find proper power ratings and other necessary information
Schedule
Upcoming Milestones
starting disassembling and re-engineering of bought off-the-shelf products
validating stainless steel vs plastic brewing container
designing and assembling heating element for brewing container
Gantt Chart: Red area shows current step
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
$1000 total
Spent: $67
Progress on Report and Webpage
Rough draft of report complete
