Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Finalized the design for the preliminary prototype
Ran tests to investigate the feasibility of simultaneously filling multiple capillary tubes from a single eppendorf tube
Successfully filled three capillary tubes from a single eppendorf tube
Further honed knowledge of the WinCF process used by the sponsor's lab
Observed a grad student through out the process, while recording video for further study at a later date
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Refined & finalized the initial design
Finalized Design: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/7cffbd0b213f152a0bcc4889
Observed a full dry run of sponsor's WinCF procedure
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
3D Print design for initial testing
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
(4/1/2016) Dr. Quinn emphasized the importance of being able to produce as many "biological samples" as possible instead of replicate samples
Action- Necessary redesign to accommodate this new requirement
Observed dry run of the procedure
(4/3/2016) Dr. Quinn says the samples must be incubated in separate air-tight environments
Action- Conceptualized "incubation box" to separately incubate smaple
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
(3/31/16) Molding silicone should be avoided
Moved away from silicone to 3D printed rubber like materials
(3/31/16) Develop something the sponsor can use soon so that we can use the feedback to refine the design
A working prototype should be ready for the sponsor with a week
(3/31/16) Emphasize reusability in the design
Complexity added to the design the emphasize reuse as well as materials will be chosen based upon their ability to survive standard cleaning procedures
Risks and Areas of Concern
Does the prototype fulfill what the sponsor intended
Manufacturability
Primarily tolerance issues
Long term wear
Resources or Information Required but not Available
When will the 3D printers be available
What materials are available for 3D printing
