One Act students posing for a photo after their performance.
Written by Troy Kallhoff | This past week, the EMF One Act team went to Nebraska City to perform at districts. The morning started out a little rough with one of the actresses not attending because of sickness and one of the crew members having to fill her part. Mrs. Meyers said, “I think that the performance went well. Everyone did as well as they could have. Unfortunately, we did not get as good of a place as we would have liked but I think we still did good.” The whole year was a little bit of a challenge adapting to being with Friend. It was fun, but it came with some challenges of trying to schedule practices around everyone's schedules. She also said, “ It was fun getting to work with the students from Exeter-Milligan and Friend this year. Troy said, “ I think this was our best performance and I was glad we were able to do that for districts.” The team ended up getting seventh place. In conclusion, it was a great learning year for the first year of EMF One Act!

Written by Troy Kallhoff | On November 16, 2023, the EMF One Act team traveled to Humboldt to compete in the Pioneer Conference One Act Competition. Going into the competition, Ms. Elsberry, the One Act Director, was excited and ready to go. After the performance, she said she was confident the team could improve even more. After listening to the judges’ comments after their performance, Director Elsberry noted that the cast could have done a better job acting bigger, like gods and goddesses would. Kiley Oldehoft, who plays Aphrodite, said, “I could have been more my character and had bigger reactions.” The team placed 9th out of the eleven schools in the Pioneer Conference, with Troy Kallhoff, Kmila Benitez, Tucker Svec, Halona Wooten, and Kyler Sladek earning Superior Acting Awards. Director Elsberry plans on watching superhero movies to learn how to command a stage like gods and goddesses. Looking to the future, the EMF One Act team will have a matinee with the Exeter-Milligan and Friend Elementary Schools on November 21st in Friend, with their district competition on November 29th. One Act has benefited many students as they get out of their comfort zone and speak and perform in front of many people. We wish the EMF One Act team the best of luck with the rest of their season.
Kmila Benitez trying to uplift the "holy" item during the play.
Written by Troy Kallhoff | This upcoming Sunday, the EMF One Act play puts on its very first performance at the Exeter Gymnasium. This year’s play is called Zeus on the Loose by Alec Strum. The play shows the gods on Olympus trying to figure out where their king, Zeus, ran off. I had the chance to talk to Kmila Benitez; this is her second year doing One Act, so she is the perfect person to talk to about the current state of this year’s production. With it being our first year in a co-op with Friend, I asked Kmila Benitez what she thought about working with Friend. She said, “It has been interesting and a bit chaotic. However, as time has passed, we have gotten to know each other and can work well together.” Kmila’s favorite part about One Act is being able to create something she is proud of. I also got to interview Assistant Coach Mrs. Myers. Mrs. Myers has also been with the One Act production for two years. She says her favorite part about One Act is watching the actors and actresses create their characters and build on top of them. Mrs. Myers said, “It has been difficult to organize practice schedules, but it has been awesome to watch Exeter-Milligan and Friend students getting different ideas for the play.” We look forward to seeing how the EMF One Act performs yearly and on Sunday, November 5 at "Just Desserts."
