Exeter-Milligan 7-12 band members performing during the performance.
Written by Savana Krupicka | On Friday, November 10th, Exeter-Milligan Public Schools held a Veteran’s Day Program for the community to honor those who have served our country. Before the concert, the school held a breakfast for veterans and their families to thank them for their service. The program started at 10 AM with the Exeter-Milligan Band playing their first two pieces. Chad Schroetlin, a current military member of the Nebraska Army National Guard, came and spoke at the Veteran’s Day Program. He spoke about his past experiences in the Army along with the main topic of how to thank a veteran. After speaking with Mr. Perez, he expressed his thoughts on the program performances, and on the speaker. He thought that Schroetlin had a good speech, and it was interesting to hear about how he got his purple heart. Mr. Perez also thought that it was interesting to hear him talk about how to honor veterans. “I thought the program overall made a really meaningful impact for the veterans and community,” Mr. Perez explained. Overall, Exeter-Milligan Public Schools held a great Veteran’s Day Program. Thank you to all the veterans who have served our country.
Exeter-Milligan choir members singing in the Pioneer Conference Vocal Clinic.
Written by Aidan Vavra | On Monday, November 6 the Exeter-Milligan high school choir students traveled to Sterling for the Pioneer Conference Vocal Clinic. The students left at 10:30 that morning, and arrived there around noon. This year there are five high school students in choir, all of them going to the clinic. These students are Dravin Birkes, Avery Nichols, Logan Krupicka, Tucker Svec, and RJ Clevenger. The students got the opportunity to sing many different types of music at the clinic. They sang a song in Spanish and another one in Latin. One of the pieces they sang was called “Winter’s Breathe.” The choir sang another song named “Keep Your Lamps” and finished with the song, “Salute to Armed Forces” where veterans in the audience were recognized. Having the opportunity to interview Mr. Perez, who along with teaching the band is also Exeter-Milligan’s choir director. Mr. Perez thought that the performance went well. He said, “The students worked hard all day long and the performance was moving.” Senior choir member, Dravin Birkes, stated, “The performance went well and everyone sang well. My favorite song to sing was Breathe of Winter.” Dravin also mentioned that he really enjoys being in choir and the class is fun. Overall, the choir students had a good time at the vocal clinic, and plan to attend again next year.
