Why are they at Risk?

It's simple, climate change and the loss of sea ice habitat.

Polar bears rely on glaciers to hunt and conserve energy throughout the summer and fall seasons. During this time, food can be really scarce. As polar bears go for long periods of time without food, their health deteriorates.

In addition to this, ice caps only form during the fall in places such as the Hudson Bay and the James Bay in Canada. Every week before they melt, these polar bears shed about 10kg of their bodyweight, further decreasing their overall health. Therefore, it is vital that they find food sources in order to feed themselves as well as their cubs.
