The machine starts with some falling dominoes
The dominoes send a small metal ball down a rail
That metal ball sends a hand in motion
The hand spins on a hinge
The hand hits a bowling ball
The bowling ball hits a candle
The candle falls near a pile of money
The money bursts into flames. A tip of the hat to the Dark Knight's joker
Starting off with some dominoes. Just rigidbodies with gravity. The first one has a slightly delayed impulse towards the top of the block.
Just a rigidbody sphere rolling down a rail. The rail was kind of tough to do, as the initial rail led to the ball flying off the edge, and I had to put up guardrails on the side.
The Hand. I had a lot of fun with this. The forearm is on a hinge constraint and the wrist joint is a pin constraint, which leads to the arm and hand moving together, but slightly separately as well.
Another ball rolling down a rail. Initially I wanted this to be a halfpipe with a bit of an angle, but the halfpipe was refusing to work as a body, so I just went back to the simple rail like I'd done before.
The flame particles are a remnant of something I'd been trying to do with my first run of this project. Since I'd finally gotten them working there I wanted to reuse them, and so I ended up deciding to have a pile of money catch. The flame is the only part of the timing not triggered dynamically. I just noted when the candle was bumping the money and triggered the fire to start then.

Making this a little footnote here, but I spent several hours on a first run of this project, utilizing a lot of stuff that seemed really interesting. Unfortunately, I had two issues. First, I couldn't actually get it working right, specifically the fumes which were made from a fluid, were not traversing the tube in the way I wanted. Secondly, I was triggering a lot of stuff myself, without using dynamics, and that felt against the spirit of the project. So I decided to retire it and start over, but here is the playblast if anyone is interested.
