A video showing a 360 degree view of the chest open and closed, both shaded and in wireframe
A shaded view of the front of the chest. The lock in particular gave me some trouble, but overall I believe the final product looks like a good representation of the reference image.
A wireframe view of the front of the chest. As you can see, all of the studs are just spheres which I pushed into the box, so that they only protrude a bit. I also left the treasure out of most of the wireframe images, as it did not look good.
This image shows the back of the chest. I added some fairly generic hinges, as the original reference I was using did not have a view of the back, but I still believed the chest ought to have hinges.
This image provides a good view of the treasure in wireframe, and I hope it serves as a good enough explanation for why I left it out of the wireframe images.
This is a top view of the chest. I think this image does a good job of showing the symmetry, most of which was achieved using the mirror tool.
This is a wireframe view of the top of the chest. It does show that I had to do some tweaking beyond just using the mirror tool, as it didn't look quite right just using the mirror.
This finally shows the treasure in all of its glory. The treasure I used came with a texture, which I applied to a Blinn texture to give it some extra shine.
I originally had a version of this image with the treasure included, but I really like the way it looks without it, so I subbed it out.
