Initial Storyboards, done on index cards
We are introduced to our protagonist, a sword wielding ball
The camera switches to reveal the huge dragon that he is gearing up to battle
First he rolls to our left to dodge the dragon's breath
Then he leaps to our right to get over the dragon's claw
He goes on the offensive, throwing his sword
The sword spins in the air
The sword impales the dragon, killing it
The ball jumps up and down in celebration
The ball climbs a hill in order to get to the dragon's treasure
We see the ball looking down on the treasure happily
Now we get to see the treasure
Way too much. Couldn't easily manipulate and made Maya way too slow
I actually really liked this one, until I had the idea for the final one
The idea of the dragon also being a ball, even if it didn't actually move much, was very funny to me
Used a fluid in order to create a fire effect. It didn't turn out quite how I wanted it to, but no amount of tweaking was getting it right and I thought it looked cool enough as is
Simply modeled a claw and had it swipe underneath the predetermined jumping animation
The movement of the ball is made better looking by the squashing and stretching in each jump
Both dodges and the sword throw have a bit of windup to make sure the audience can tell what is going to happen, but the sword throw is the most pronounced
The sword remains in the air for an exaggerated period of time, largely for comedic effect
