While we do have meetings every week and attendance is taken, there is no stigma around missing meetings and no pressure to attend every meeting. Points for attendance is based around the average attendance per house, not the total, so it's fine to miss meetings. The subject of meetings are never based on what happened the previous week, and everybody, even people who have never been to WizMug before, are welcome at all times. No matter if you come to all of the meetings, meetings every once in a while, or anything in between WizMug is the place for you!
Students are sorted into houses by filling out a sorting quiz of our own design. The executive board (containing members of all four houses) work together to then sort each new student into a house. The decisions are made solely off of this quiz, and any previous results you may have received are not considered. You will have an opportunity on the quiz to state a preference against any one house, but we do have a rule against intentionally rigging the quiz towards one house over the others. Please answer truthfully! There will be a sorting ceremony in the fall which usually takes place in the Wren building to announce houses for new students, and new students joining in spring will be sorted as well. No matter what house you end up in, all your housemates will greet you warmly and help make you feel comfortable in the club. Even if you find yourself in an unexpected house, most people are happy with the house they get.
Feel free to email the executive board at wizardsmuggles@email.wm.edu. We will do our best to answer any questions and/or concerns you may have.
There is no concrete membership list for Wizards & Muggles, so anyone is welcomed to pop in to see what we are about at anytime. We do encourage prospective members to be sorted so they can participate fully in all club activities, but if you have missed sorting or have concerns feel free to reach out to someone on the exec board and we will work with you! To get information about how to join the weekly meeting, join the ListServ, either by joining over TribeLink or sending an email to WizardsMuggles@email.wm.edu with your name and WM email address.
In order to be eligible for sorting, you are required to pay dues, either semesterly or yearly. For the 2022-23 school year, members can pay the semester cost of $7 or the year-long cost of $10. This cost is in place to help the club organize and pay for food, gifts, and fun activities throughout the year. If these dues would be a significant financial burden/barrier to joining, prospective members are encouraged to reach out to the club president for other options.
