To start, let's take a look at my reference image. It is a computer graphic, unfortunately, but I really liked the design.
My chest was modeled after the image found above. It was taken from this site!
My gold coins, rings, and goblet were all downloaded from 3drender.com. It was a great tool and was fun to scale the different objects down. The gold coins proved to be particularly useful.
I used two light sources for an eerie look. Working with the shadowing, custom textures for the metal bolts, and building the custom lock was tough, but rewarding.
Thanks to 3dRender.com, I was able to quickly download some gold coins and the goblet. I did rearrange the coins (I wanted stacks), but it was easy to work with and really made the whole project look great.
You'll note the literal hundreds of coins in and around the chest.
I liked this particular because of the way it shows off the "bolts" in the chest. The 60ish bolts were by far the most tedious part of the chest, but it was fun to mess around with.

The wireframes were especially cool to look at after the items were added. It really shows off the depth of the chest, as well as the individual components that make it up.
Unfortunately, the renderings you see are just screenshots from the render window. The lighting upon export to PNG was strange & dark. (See the images to the right).
Though I am not sure why, when I exported this model, the entire image got much, much darker. Strange!
