Slice of Life, By The Hours
Using eight traditional monastic named hours (Vigils, Lauds, Prime, Terce, etc.), my series consists of 8 vertical hanging panels, 51” tall x 24” wide.
Using a vertically stacked double square proportion, ringing out the hours like the chimes of my Meemaw’s mantle clock, my hope is to capture the emotional tonal range of a day in the life of a person awake and present to the peace & quiet all around them.
Using our home’s interior as my basis and tied to the Hours, while working with watercolor, gouache & casein, I render the play of light and darkness to capture glimpses into a contemplative life.
As I wander, it’s the light, the shadow, and the wonder — hidden in the veil, where my delight is found.
