Winter4
Carol Heiser18 x 18 in., watercolor leaf prints on watercolor paperNFS
The Ghosts of Leaves [northern red oak, white oak, and American beech]. After trees have become dormant at the end of autumn, all that remains of their previous growth are the echoes of leaves, an abstraction of their essence, blown about in cold winter winds. I layered this painting with multiple washes, and used drawing gum (removable liquid frisket) on the backs of leaves, to obtain the effect of white veins within the layered masked areas.Â
