How do I know what modalities I'm scheduled to teach?
A course's modality is connected to the letters associated with its section number. For example, if you are teaching ENG 111 and the section is 04DT, the "DT" indicates you are teaching a class that meets f2f at the downtown campus at the times indicated in the schedule. See this chart for the most common modalities you might encounter.
Note that faculty are expected to teach a course via the modality specified in the schedule. For example, if you sign up to teach a class that meets f2f, you cannot teach the class over Zoom or asynchronously (except when you have to cancel class and direct students to complete work via Canvas in your absence--see the next FAQ for more information about class cancellations).
What do I do if I need to cancel a class due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances?
If you need to cancel your office hours or a class (regardless of mode--DT, HD, PR, HP, LO, HO, RC, FX), follow these steps:
Post a Canvas announcement letting your students know of the cancellation and what they should do or any alternate assignments they should complete.
From your reynolds.edu email account, send an email to humanities@reynolds.edu (copying the English discipline chair) following these guidelines:
The Subject line should include some specifics about the event. Example: Canceling my f2f class that meets 6/8 at DTC.
The body should confirm you posted a Canvas announcement that informs students of the cancellation and provides instructions and/or an alternate assignment.
If you will miss a f2f class, indicate the campus, building and room number, and a request that front-office staff post a sign on the classroom door.

How do I get my parking decal and college ID?
Parking on the Parham Road campus is open. Currently faculty serving the downtown campus can park in the student parking deck directly behind the building. A Navy Hill parking deck provides overflow parking. Note that a faculty ID is necessary to park in either the student or Navy Hill parking deck.
For more information, consult this page on reynolds.edu.
What phone number should part-time faculty use when students need to contact them?
Here are the Reynolds numbers at which your students can reach you:
DTC: 804.523.5178
PRC: 804.523.5263
Place a statement on your syllabi that lets students know to leave a message for you if they call one of these numbers. Be sure to refer to the DTC number for DTC students and PRC number for PRC students.
Note: it is acceptable to add a statement that your preferred contact is by email but please do include the official office phone number.
Where do I park, and how do I get my parking decal and ReynoldsID?
At the Parham campus, parking is open and free. At the Downtown campus, parking is free, but you'll need to swipe your ReynoldsID to get into either of two available parking decks. Currently, faculty are allowed to park in the student parking deck right behind the Downtown campus building. The Navy Hill parking deck is also an option, and may be required at some point.
To park at Reynolds, you'll need a parking decal. Click here for details.
For information about obtaining a ReynoldsID, consult this page.

What do I do when a parent, guardian, or other third party contacts me about a student's progress or participation in class?
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) stipulates that "FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to a student who reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level." This means that FERPA extends to any student attending a college-level course, even if they are minors.
Faculty should not release information to a parent or guardian unless the student has completed the Release of Information form via SIS. Look for a Service Indicator that conveys the student's permission. Contact the ENG Discipline Chair if you have questions.

What do I do when a student plagiarizes or cheats?
What to do in the event a student plagiarizes or cheats is governed by Academic Integrity Policy 2-7. Please refer to the policy for details.
Here is the general process to follow if a student submits plagiarized work:
Notify the student, being sure to adhere to the student rights outlined in policy 2-7, linked above.
If you determine you want to move forward, contact the Office of Student Support Services (OSSS) by emailing academicdishonesty@reynolds.edu. The purpose of this email is to find out whether the student has any previous violations on file, so that is the question to ask. In the email, be sure to identify the class as well as the student’s name and ID#. No additional details are needed at this step in the process.
If OSSS replies that the student has previously violated the Academic Integrity Policy, refer the case back to them by completing Form No. 75-0005.
If OSSS replies that the student has NOT previously violated the policy, and if the student ACCEPTS the charges and signs an agreement, forward all of the materials to OSSS by completing Form No. 75-0005.
If OSSS replies that the student has NOT previously violated the policy, and if the student DOES NOT ACCEPT the charges, refer the case to the school dean for a formal hearing by completing Form No. 75-0005.
The flow chart below offers a visual representation of the process. Please note that the links in the image are not live.
