Since 2020, Reynolds has been part of the VCCS Direct Enrollment (DE) pilot. DE eliminates the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) and places students into the most appropriate English and Math courses based on multiple measures, including students' self-reported high school GPA or test scores (for students 0-5 years after high school graduation). Students who have been out of high school for more than five years are placed into English and Math courses using an advising questionnaire and informed self-placement.
The previous Developmental English courses (ENF 1, 2, & 3) have been replaced by two new English Direct Enrollment (EDE) courses: EDE 10 (3 credits) and EDE 11 (3 credits in a single instructor linked cohort with ENG 111).
ENG faculty interested in teaching EDE courses may need to complete professional development modules prior to beginning a teaching assignment. For more details about EDE professional development opportunities, contact the English Discipline Chair, Karyn Pallay.
