Susan Moncure

Nature is always speaking to me. On a recent visit to the land my ancestors have owned since the 1700's, I was infused with images for landscape paintings. One tree near the barn really spoke to me of it's strength to remain vibrant even though a huge hole was in it's center. Currently, a member of my family resides on the property in a house built in 1803. I sensed that through out the centuries, many diverse cultures have lived, worked and died on this land. In my paintings I wish to tell a bigger story--one that honors all the cultures - Native American, White, and African American--who lived here.
