ADVANCE Study Elsewhere Policy
Eligibility Requirements:
ADVANCE students who meet all ADVANCE milestones of their curricular pathway, but have no more than one (1) course remaining to complete all requirements of the NOVA associate degree program as indicated in their ADVANCE curricular pathway can transition to Mason prior to completion of this requirement. However, students in this category must satisfy the following in order to be approved for matriculation:
Register for the remaining NOVA associate degree requirement as indicated in their ADVANCE curricular pathway
Submit an application to graduate from NOVA by the deadline (October 1st for Fall graduation, March 1st for Spring graduation, and June 1st for Summer graduation) for the associate degree program indicated in their ADVANCE curricular pathway during the semester of transition
Have a completed ADVANCE study elsewhere memo on file with the Assistant Director of ADVANCE Operations
Upon completion of the final course with a grade of “C” or higher and submission of NOVA graduation application by the semester-specific deadline, the student will meet their final academic requirement for associate degree conferral at NOVA and of the ADVANCE Program.
Failure of the student to do so will result in the student’s termination from the ADVANCE Program.
The ADVANCE study elsewhere process is valid only during the semester of transition. The ADVANCE student is subject to the study elsewhere policy and processes of Mason and their respective college or school after this semester.
Upon completion of the outstanding course and conferral of the student’s NOVA associate degree, a final transcript will be sent to Mason to update the student’s academic record accordingly. The Assistant Director of ADVANCE Operations and Mason’s Office of the University Registrar will oversee this process, its documentation, and the transfer of the remaining credit.
