ADVANCE Matriculation Deferral Policy

Policy:

ADVANCE students are required to matriculate to Mason for the fall semester following NOVA May or August graduation, or the spring semester following NOVA December graduation. Students with extenuating circumstances may request a one-semester deferral of Mason enrollment. The written request must be submitted before the first day of the Mason fall or spring semester. Email advance@gmu.edu with the request and justification. Mason’s Office of Admissions determines all deferral decisions. ADVANCE students who do not request a deferral or who are not approved for a deferral may apply for regular transfer admission

Please Note:

• If an ADVANCE student is denied a deferral, they give up their ADVANCE status and apply as a transfer student

• ADVANCE students who matriculate, enroll, but drop from classes at Mason before the first day of class are eligible for this deferral. If an ADVANCE student drops out of classes after the first day of the semester, they need to re-apply to Mason as a transfer student. These ADVANCE students are inactivated to prevent further enrollment in classes
