Credits & Credit Recovery

CREDITS

Credits are granted upon the successful completion of course requirements. Following are some special provisions:

  1. When students transfer to MHS, the Assistant Principal and the guidance counselor will evaluate their transcripts, and credits will be granted according to Medfield High School’s standards.

  2. If a student exceeds six (6) unexcused absences or fifteen (15) total absences, they will not receive credit for that term. If a student exceeds fifteen (15) absences in a single term, they will also not receive a grade for that term (marked with ‘N’ on report card). Credit recovery options will be made available to students wishing/needing to regain lost credit.

  3. If a student receives an N (no grade) for two terms in a full-year course or one term for a semester course, the final grade for that course will be an N and no credit will be given.

  4. If a student receives an N in an Advanced Placement course, the student will be encouraged to withdraw from that course. This is based on the pace and rigor of Advanced Placement courses.

CREDIT RECOVERY OPTIONS

  • Credit recovery options will be made available to students wishing/needing to regain lost credit. These plans are specific to the student’s particular needs, but generally entail making up missed work, remediating lost class time, and adhering to the attendance policy in the subsequent term.

  • Online credit recovery options will be made available to students who are not able to regain credits during the school year.

  • Night school courses may be taken only by seniors in jeopardy of not graduating in June, and only with the approval of the Assistant Principal, counselor, department chair and parents.

  • A minimum of 30 clock hours must be spent in classroom time to receive credit for such a course.

  • Quality points for the course will not be included in the student’s GPA. However, a grade and credit will be given upon successful completion of the course.
