Hi, Welcome to my project. For my whole project, I would like to record several different types of classes, such as individual class, group class, and master class. After recording, I will summaries the note about what did the teacher say in this class and what I can learn from this class. This is Weekly Update 4.
Because the COVID-19 is so contagious, the University of Arizona decided to turn all courses into online classes after the spring break, so I couldn't go to observe the guitar group class. My project is to audit and summarize the similarities and differences in teaching between different types of classes. Therefore, in the next few weeks, I will watch the open class online and make notes to share with you guys.
I have uploaded two classes, the first one is taught by Adam Del Monte. One of the leading flamenco and classical guitarist/composers of his generation, Adam del Monte has made it his life mission to fully express himself in these two genres, transcending labeling and convention. The second one is taught by Benchu Ni, who is the famous guitar teacher and performer in China. I have summarized some tips for play tremolo. 1. Tremolo is a kind of broken chord, fingering is P-A-M-I. When we play tremolo, A finger is always played loud, however, M and I finger are played softly. We need to control three fingers to make them have the same sound. 2. When we play tremolo, A finger is going to oscillate a little bit more than the other two fingers, which is the second thing we need to control. Here is the practice way: use A-M-I to play 4 notes on the third string, and play the strong beat every 4 notes. Using third string to practice is because the damage to nails is minimal in the third string, and playing is thirds string could make sure our fingers have the minimize swing. 3. Make sure practice with a metronome.
Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra) is a classical guitar piece composed in 1896 in Granada by Spanish composer and guitarist Francisco Tárrega. It requires the tremolo technique and is often performed by advanced players. This is a good piece to practice tremolo. Practice with the metronome and gradually speed it up. Here are the video and score.
Next week I will observe another online guitar class video. Thanks for following me, be safe, take care.
