Hi, Welcome to my project. For my whole project, I would like to record several different types of classes, such as individual class, group class, and master class. After recording, I will summaries the note about what did the teacher say in this class and what I can learn from this class. This is Weekly Update 2.
This week, I have taken a class with David Russell on Thursday. I have played BWV 1006a Gaviota en rondó by Johann Sebastian Bach. This piece is for solo violin and is the last work in the set of Six Sonatas and Partitas. It consists of the following movements: Preludio, Loure, Gavotte en Rondeau, Menuets (I and II), Bourrée and Gigue. It takes about 20 minutes to perform. The entire partita was transcribed by Bach cataloged as BWV 1006a. The organist Wilhelm Tappert claimed in 1900 that this arrangement was for lute solo, but present research indicates that it was for an unspecified instrument.
Since this piece is a rondo, David said I need to make audition know when the different theme is and when is the rondo again. To improve this, I need to do more dynamic. For example, when I play the rondo, I can play strong. When I play different themes, I should play softer. In addition, he gave me a new finger of my trill which is easier for me to play. Overall, he said I should play like a performer instead of a student. To obtain that, I should use different colors to play different phrases. For instance, when I want to play soft, playing very smoothly, and if I want to play loud, playing very strong. Here is the full video.
For next week, I will audit the guitar group class for guitar minor students and I will update what I have learned in that class. Also, I will upload the audio of BWV 1006a Gavotte which is the piece I have taken masterclass to see what I have learned from this class. If you interested in my project, see you next week!
