What will the grading look like?

Making the peer review part of the assignment grade helps ensure student participation. We suggest making the exercise a complete/incomplete exercise, and rely on the student writers to help assess the quality of the feedback they receive.

How will you assess writers' use of the peer feedback for revision?

With the final version of the work, student writers could write author statements reflecting on how they used feedback to make changes and what they learned about their writing from the revision process. Revision plans asking students to reflect on specific comments work to this end, too. These can provide insight into how you might guide student feedback and revision in the future.

How will you assess & provide feedback on peer review quality?

Consider the number of students and size of the teaching team. For large classes, consider reading only a random cross section and sharing key observations back with the class. Asking peer writers to evaluate the usefulness of the feedback is a great way for both the writer and the peer reviewers to reflect on the process. Author statements or revision plans work well for assessment, too. You can find resources about supporting student revision here.
