Who are we?

We are a team that represents young professional leaders from Central and South America. We attended SUSI Institutes '12, '16, '18, '19, and '20. We are community leaders working in different areas of society such as Law, Education, Science, Journalism, Economics, and Engineering. We got involved in social entrepreneurship because we want to guarantee equal opportunities to everybody, to promote young people's participation in social projects to be able to adapt their communities to the coming changes, and finally because we are strongly committed to building a better world.

The Issue: Educational Gap

Latin America is one of the most unequal regions in the world in terms of income and opportunities. We identify a substantial gap in education in our countries and all over the continent. The learning gap between the richest and poorest students has widened by 25%, as a result of inequalities in access to quality non-classroom education. Access to education is directly related to problems such as migration, overcoming poverty, non-discrimination and gender, citizen participation, and others. This has been an extensive issue for decades, however, during the COVID-19 outbreak, this issue has been exposed and exacerbated. As an example: people in rural communities are unable to attend online classes due to limited access to internet connection, affecting education quality in general.

Policy Ideas

Develop a special support for rural zones related to generate access to online education programs for primary and secondary scholars and the resources for that (Computers, Internet signal, Tutorials for students, Mobile Centers with Wifi Access, etc). The Governments can do alliances within universities and private enterprises for providing the tools and the Internet access in remote zones.

Develop mentorship programs for students that are not receiving formal classes and stay in their houses, considering their social-economic realities.

Improve educational strategies using Mass Media (Tv public channels or radio stations) and Social Media for broadcast classes.

Create special assistance for migrant childrens and their families for they still receiving formal education.

Create a budget for training teachers with new tools and resources for work with students in poverty situation.

Invest more money in public schools, especially in technology and educational resources for providing more strategies for their students, especially for the low-income zones.
