Your grades will be kept up to date in the D2L course in the Grades tool. From there, you can see item-specific grades and after the course gets going (i.e. around the mid-point of class), I will release your current overall grade. One of the best ways to gauge your performance in class is to see how your score compares to others using the class average view.
WEIGHT (OUT OF 100%) | CATEGORY & TYPE OF ASSIGNMENTS
5% | Getting Started
20% | Quizzes
15% | Discussion Assignments
25% | Participation Assignments (Live Class prep, attendance and participation)
35% | Application Assignments
Generally your assignments will be graded within one week of the DUE DATE in D2L. Grading all submissions at once blindly (without names) is one way to ensure fairness in grading, and I try to follow this procedure. It has the added benefit of allowing me to identify any common issues students are having with understanding so I can respond accordingly.
All assignments in this class will be graded on a scale of 0 to 2+.
This scale mimics the type of assessment that managers and leaders conduct when evaluating their followers' work in organizations (which is why we'll be using it in this course). At work it generally only matters if you got the work done, and if you did it poorly or well.
0 = Did not complete, is plagiarized, is off topic/gibberish, or is late.
1 = Needs Improvement (incomplete or below standard work).
2 = Meets requirements.
2+ points = Exceeds expectations and considerable effort is demonstrated.
All papers, discussion posts, etc. in this course must use APA style for their citations both in-text and in a references section (but not for the general style of papers or writing or text submissions - only cites in them). Note: If you are found to have plagiarized in this course or submitted unoriginal work, then you will receive a zero for the assignment - no exceptions. TurnItIn is used in this course throughout the Dropbox to detect plagiarism - you can access a D2L course under the Discover tab to pass your own work through TurnItIn to see what reports I will get as well if you like! This is a great way to check your own work for plagiarism flags.
Refer to the Course Calendar for a high-level view of assignments. Refer to the Checklists in D2L for detailed information about assignment deliverables.
The Getting Started activities are the basic housekeeping that you complete in order to be successful in this class
These quizzes cover the reading and course concepts. They contain random questions pulled from a larger sample, which means even though you can take the quiz twice, you may not get the same questions each time. As such, it's in your best interest to know the material before you attempt the quiz. Between the randomization and the time limitations, it's difficult to get a high grade without knowing the material beforehand.
This grade is based on your active preparation for and participation in our live class sessions.
In this class you'll reflect on methods for developing your skills through application assignments, including the following three individual assignments:

0 = Did not complete, is plagiarized, is off-topic/gibberish, or is late.
1 = Incomplete or below standard work.
2 = Meets requirements.
2+ points = I love giving extra points for awesome work. If I am deeply impressed by your submission, or if you do something that could be considered an Organizational Citizenship Behavior, you may receive additional points!
If you are not sure what an OCB is, it’s a fairly simply concept. It basically means going above and beyond in a helpful way that benefits the group (our class) and contributes to effectiveness.

Quiz Question OCB Option: For each of the Reading quizzes you can submit improvements/corrections to current questions or you can submit entirely new questions. For each question I choose to correct or include in future quizzes you will receive one point of extra credit.*
If you're improving on or correcting current questions: You need to include the full text and answers of the original question (you can copy and paste these from your quiz submissions), then give me a short explanation about what your issue is with the current question the way it is and why you feel your revision improves the learning assessment. Finally, include the source for the revised or new correct answer (not just the page number, but the line of text or quote from a video or site, etc.).
If you're submitting new questions: Multiple choice, multi-select, and matching questions are all acceptable. Don't ask for very obvious or very obscure information, but focus on concepts. You need to include the source for the revised or new correct answer (not just the page number, but the line of text or quote from a video or site, etc.).
You MUST name your document with the quiz you are submitting the questions for, Ex: Chapter 2 Reading Quiz.docx
If you need some tips, check out this guide to creating effective questions.
Here are some additional tips for earning OCB credit: How to earn these is explained in detail on this page.
