Cartoon Grid Drawing

With this lesson we learned how mural artists create accurate representations of their designs on large walls, by do some math. We worked in a similar manner where we picked a cartoon character with a 3/8th inch grid over top of the image and did some calculations to figure out the final grid size of the size paper we chose, so our character would fit on the paper. We then drew our grids lightly, if we could, by measuring and using the ruler as a straight edge.

Once our grids were drawn we went box by box, line by line and drew the lines of our characters to match the original. Then we erased the grids and colored them in. Some even chose to do a second one for extra credit. We also learned the ratio between their original character and the final drawing. The final drawings were 4 to 6 times larger than the original depending on the size paper they chose to do their project on.
