RESOURCES AND SERVICES

Get help with access to food, resources, and other support.

This is made possible through nearly $1 million in combined grant funding and is aimed at strengthening family and youth support services across the region. In northern St. Louis County, this initiative includes funding from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families to support the implementation of three Community & Family Resource Centers and one mobile resource center to serve rural communities.

The Community Resource Navigator at each agency will help connect families with regional support for food, transportation, and other basic needs not covered by county programs. Each navigator will also help families access services that promote healthy social-emotional development, offer safe social opportunities, and provide parenting resources.

Family Resource Navigation

Our Family Resource Facilitator and Community Navigator, Ryan Stewart (ryan@elycommunityresource.org), brings a wealth of experience and energy to working with Ely students and families. ECR can help with access to food, information, support groups , and can help connect families with outside-the-school resources needed to support their children. This effort is supported by the Community Care team and the Behavioral Health Network and adds a "helping hand" for Ely ISD #696 school staff.

Ely Community Health Center

ECHC ffers free offers free and discounted, non-emergency healthcare and dental services. Their services include:

- Basic, non-emergency medical care
- Dental hygeine services
- Restorative dental referrals
- Lab and X-ray referrals
- Medication assistance
- Community referrals and connections
- MNSure Navigation services including help applying for public programs like Medical Assistance (MA) and MinnesotaCare

Free Medical Clinic

Thursdays, 5:30-7:00pm

Affordable Dental Clinic

Wednesdays - Thursdays, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (Occasional Fridays)

Appointment is required.

Postpartum & Lactation Support

Laura Carlson Keely (laura@peapodpostpartum.com) is a Postpartum Doula and a Certified Lactation Counselor. She is available for free, drop-in counseling and postpartum support for parents and growing families. Mental Health Resources

Range Mental Health

The Ely Office of Range Mental Health offers full service outpatient therapy for adults and children. The office is staffed by licensed professionals.

Ely VA Clinic

The Ely VA provides outpatient primary care and specialty health services.

Hours may vary by services, so check the website for more detailed information. In general, the Ely VA Clinic is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Housing, Clothing, or Food Resources

Ely Community Resource

ECR's Family Resource Facilitator and Community Navigator, Ryan Stewart (ryan@elycommunityresource.org) can help with rent, groceries, gas, clothing items, laundry, and hygiene products through the city's and the county's support networks.

Ely Area Food Shelf

The Ely Area Food Shelf is located at 15 W Conan St and is open the third Wednesday of the month from 11 am - 5 pm. for in-person shopping.

They are also open the Saturday following the shopping day from 8 am - 11 am for in-person shopping.

If unable to pick up a shopping time at 11 am, shoppers may stop by at any time to pick up a number or wait to shop. If you have limited time, the Food Shelf recommends shopping on Saturday morning when there are fewer shoppers.

Volunteers are available to help with shopping or carrying groceries.

The Job Board found on the Ely Chamber of Commerce website lists local businesses hiring full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees.

Department of Employment and Economic Development

The Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has resources and expertise to help those who are searching for jobs and/or are looking for skills training.

Northeast Minnesota Office of Job Training

The Northeast Minnesota Office of Job Training (JET) offers services for those:

Receiving public assistance
Needing assistance finding work with a criminal record
Navigating an injury or illness that is affecting their ability to work
Age 55 and older who are unemployed and looking for work
Who are veterans or active-duty military
Who have significant vision loss making it hard to get and keep a job
Who lost their job through no fault of their own
Ages 14-24 who have not completed their degree or are at risk of not completing their degree

K-12 School Year Support

These services and resources are offered during the school year. If there are other needs you have, don't hesitate to reach out to us or the school!

Buddy Backpacks

Each school year, we distribute backpacks full of shelf-stable, kid-friendly food every week for Pre-K through 12th grade students. You can sign up to receive this service by contacting your principal's office.

This service is possible through charitable partnership with The United Way of Northeastern MN and ZUPS Market.

The Holiday Project

Local families in need can register to recieve gifts for their children during the December holidays. ECR facilitates fundraising to help make the holidays joyful with toys and clothing items.

Forms to sign up to receive gifts for your children are available throughout the month of October at the ECR office or by email. Children must be 18 years old or younger and living in Ely, Winton, or Babbit.

Community members can donate to fulfill the gift requests by finding the coded (no names included) tags at local stores and churches in November.

Lunch Buddies

Lunch Buddies is a program by the United Way Northeastern Minnesota. Elementary school children are matched with caring adult mentors to share one lunch break/week at school.

You can apply to be a Lunch Buddy Mentor on the UWNM website.
