Band Leadership Council Duties

Drum Major Position by audition and majority vote.

The Drum Major is the musical and motivational student leader of the band, and 1st in command after the Band Director. The Drum Major conducts the band in performance and assists with reviewing fundamentals as well as teaching and cleaning drill. The Drum Majors are responsible for coordinating field set up for rehearsals and performances. They will also assist the Quartermaster with Uniform assignment and maintenance.

Assistant Drum Major - Only when needed. Same duties as the Drum Major.

Quartermaster Position selected by Band Director.

The Quartermaster is second in command following Drum Majors. This person is responsible for assisting the band director, staff and Drum Majors both on and off the field. Quartermasters assists with reviewing fundamentals as well as teaching and cleaning drill. They also assist Drum Majors with field set up, and the band director with Uniform assignment and maintenance.

Section Leaders Position by majority vote.

Section Leaders are 3rd in command following Drum Majors and Quartermaster. There is one Section Leader for each instrument group: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet/Horn, Low Brass and Percussion. Section leaders are responsible for the musical and marching performance of their section. They are responsible for the consistency and maintenance of marching skills within their section and will maintain effective communication on a daily basis.

Class Representatives Position by majority vote.

The main goal of the Class Representatives is to provide the best marching band experience for all those involved with the Marching Knights. Representatives are responsible for organizing team building activities and social events. Class Representatives will also assist their Section Leader with consistency and maintenance of marching skills within their section and will maintain effective communication on a daily basis. Class Representatives will also work with the Band Director for end of season and end of year awards.

Student Conductor Position selected by Band Director.

Student Conductor will conduct the band in rehearsal and possibly performance during concert season. During marching season they assist the Drum Majors and or Band Director with indoor music rehearsals. Student Conductor will also assist the Quartermaster with field set up, as well as uniform assignment and maintenance.

Recruitment & Membership Position selected by Band Director.

Membership and Recruitment officer will assist the band director in all aspects of recruiting members and supporting new members. RM Officer will also help band director develop activities throughout the year that foster team, belonging, and dedication. RM Officer will oversee Class Rep's and organize band camp activities.

QUALITIES OF A BAND LEADERSHIP COUNCIL MEMBER

1. Nominees should be exemplary band students.

2. Nominees should be self-motivated.

3. Nominees should always hold the attitude to help the band succeed.

When selected the band officers will do the following:

1. Hold meetings when needed.

2. Aid the Band Director in making decisions having an effect on the band.

3. Help band Director carry out any and all existing policies.

4. Help with band MORAL.

Students who acquire 5 demerits cannot accept a position on the Band Leadership Council if chosen.

Current Leadership Council members who acquire 5 demerits will be removed from the the Leadership Council.
