Curricular Ensembles

11/12 Symphonic Band

  • 11th and 12th Grade Band meets daily 8th period
  • Students can be in band full time or split Band with Chorus
  • Students may split with Orchestra if they play a stringed instrument

9/10 Concert Band

  • 9th and 10th Grade Band meets daily 9th period
  • Students can be in band full time or split Band with Chorus
  • Students who play a string instrument must sign up for Split 11/12 Band and Split Orchestra

Marching Band

  • Combination of both 9/10 and 11/12 Band.
  • Students are required to be in Marching Band if they are in band.

Extracurricular Ensembles

Honors Wind Ensemble

  • The Honors Ensemble follows a wind ensemble model with one person per part.
  • To be considered for this ensemble students must have attained a level 5 or 6 NYSSMA grade.
  • Ms. Henson selects the members based on NYSSMA score, reliability and instrumental openings.
  • This ensemble meets once a week in lessons and performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts.
  • The repertoire consists of orchestral transcriptions and solo selections for the students.
  • Students who miss lessons more than two weeks in a row are removed from the ensemble and returned to a regular lesson group.

Knightjazz

Who are we? High school Jazz Ensemble.

How can you join? Auditions are in early October. You can listen to the morning announcements for date and time. What experience is needed? You must audition on a prepared piece of music selected by Ms. Henson. Jazz improvisation is a plus!

What instruments are in a Jazz Band? The Knightjazz takes the following instruments: 2 Alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones and 1 bari saxophone. 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, 1 electric guitar, 1 bass guitar, 2 piano and 2 drum set.

Some of the events we perform at : Holiday concerts at the Elementary schools, Holiday concert at DDI in Greenlawn, Hope For A Cure fundraiser, Winter concert, Pops Concert, BAE Lunchtime concert, and Spring Concerts.

What kind of music does the jazz band perform? Big Band Swing, Bebop, Rock, Funk, and all types of Latin. You name it we play it.

When do we meet? Tuesday nights, 7:30 - 8:45 P.M. in the band room.

Chamber Ensembles

These small ensembles meet during lessons and occasionally after school to prepare music for Festival of the Arts Concert
