READING AND WRITING

FAMILY TREE

Last year, the EEPS teachers performed 'Family Tree' by Josh Pyke. Watch and listen to the story and then complete an activity.

Prep:  After you watch the 'Family Tree' video, draw a picture of your family and write a sentence about the people in your family. 

There is also an optional "All About My Family" booklet you can print out and complete: AllAboutMyFamily.pdf

Year 1 and 2:  After you watch the 'Family Tree' video, draw a picture of your family. Write  a story or poem about what makes your family special.

Year 3 to 6:  After you watch the 'Family Tree' video, think about what makes your family special or unique. Write a poem, information report or persuasive text about what makes your family special.

Reading: Don't forget to spend 20 minutes each day reading. 

Numeracy - Money, money, money

Prep - 2

TASK 1: WHAT'S THE TOTAL?

Look at the picture below. How much money is there altogether?

Getting started: Can you name each of the coins? 


TASK 2: HOW MANY WAYS TO MAKE $1 AND 30 CENTS?

Using the collection of coins pictured, how many different ways could you make the collection $1.30?  

Challenge: Can you find all 5 ways that you can make $1.30? 



TASK 3: MONEY MATCH GAME

Print and play Money Match 1 or 2. To create a handy spinner, use a paper clip and a pen/pencil.


TASK 4: TOYS! 

A Pokémon toy and a bag of loom bands cost $19 altogether. How much could each of the toys cost?

Getting started: If the Pokémon toy cost $10, how much are the loom bands?

Challenge: What if three toys were purchased for $19, how much could have each of the toys cost? Provide at least three different possibilities.

Year 3 to 6

TASK 1: SHOPPING 

Imagine that you win $50 from a coming first in a drawing competition. Using a toy catalogue (e.g. Target and Big W) how would you spend your $50? 

What would you buy and how much would it cost? • What change would you have left over?

Challenge: What if you won $100. What could you now buy? 

(If you do not have paper catalogues delivered to your house, you can shop online using websites such as www.target.com.au  www.bigw.com.au etc)

TASK 2: HOW MUCH DID YOU SPEND?

You went shopping at the local store. You had a ten dollar note and got the ten coins in the picture (on the left side of page).

2. You bought a chocolate bar and an icypole. How much might they each have cost?

TASK 3: PIZZA DELIVERY

You have ordered a pizza to be delivered and it costs $27.30. Look at the picture, these are the coins and notes you have in your wallet. 

Challenge: What if you also ordered two more pizzas at the value of $14.25 per pizza as well as the original order. How much change from a $100 note would you get?

EEPS COrE - Emotions

Happy. Sad. Confused. Excited. Scared. There SO MANY feelings that you can feel at any given time and all of them are perfectly normal. It’s ok to feel sad, grumpy or scared sometimes. But knowing your feelings will help you feel better quicker. 

Task: Create your own emotion guessing game. 

Prep-Year 1: Pull a face of an emotion and get your family to try and guess what emotion you are showing. Take turns and see who can guess the emotion the quickest. 

Year 2- Year 6: Write down some clues for someone else to guess your emotion. Then give it to a family member and see if they can work it out. 

For example:

1. When I feel like this I sometimes slump my shoulders.
2. When I feel like this I sometimes have tears.
3. When I feel like this I sometimes have a frown on my face.

PE

If you are feeling up to it, complete this challenge. See how many levels you can complete. 

What you will need: A soft ball or tennis ball.

Level 1: Catching
Throw the ball up with one hand and catch it with two hands.  
Level 2: Throwing
Throw the ball into the ground and try and it make it bounce above your head then catch it on its way down.  
Level 3:  Bouncing
Throw the ball into the ground and push the ball back down without catching it. Try to keep the ball bouncing by  pushing it to the ground five times in a row.
Level 4: Catching
Throw the ball up with one hand and catch it with the opposite hand, then start with the ball in your other hand.

Task: Watch the video about numbers then have a go at writing the numbers in Kanji. Use the pictures to copy step by step.
