Concert Bands

5/6 Band

The 5th & 6th grade band focuses on the fundamentals of playing an instrument including proper playing position, tone production, instrument care and music literacy. Students begin to learn the value of working cohesively as well as responsibility for their contribution to the ensemble. They will explore musical elements including (but not limited to): Simple Meter, Key Signatures, Articulations, Dynamics, Form and Style. These student musicians will work towards expanding their instrument range to one octave or greater and strive for a smooth and balanced tone.

7/8 Band

The 7th & 8th grade band builds upon the fundamentals they learned in 5/6 band and are introduced to more complex musical elements and skills. Greater emphasis is placed on the responsibility of the student to know and accurately perform their parts. Larger picture ideas such as ensemble balance, tuning, melodic and harmonic roles and analyzing the intent of the composer are explored in rehearsals. Students will learn more advanced playing techniques and work to expand their range to two octaves or greater.

Concert Band

The High School Concert Band challenges our most experienced players to reach the highest level of musicianship. These students participate in more than 20 performances throughout the year including pep band events, concerts and festivals. Advanced playing techniques and mature musicianship will be called upon to play more rigorous and exciting concert band repertoire. More emphasis is placed on musical analysis, critical thinking, reflection, creativity, and connecting ideas and concepts to sound and other musical elements. Select players will also be given the opportunity to perform in Honor Bands with other high-level musicians.
