Honors Advanced Biology is a college preparatory course designed for students who desire a thorough understanding of the concepts which underlie the functioning of all living organisms. The focus is on selected biological principles including biochemistry, physiology, genetics, ecology, and natural selection. Labs stress the process of scientific investigation.
Advanced Biology is the third course for students completing the honors science curriculum at EHS. It is distinguished by students having previously completed Honors Chemistry. This allows the students to dive deeper into topics of biochemistry, genetics, disease and environment than they would without a chemistry background. The class unitizes internet resources to gather information and increase understanding of concepts. Advanced Biology is also heavily lab based, with many labs taking multiple class periods to complete. Labs are designed to introduce topics, develop deep understanding of concepts and incorporate technology.
Students who are successful in Advanced Biology work collaboratively, are open and willing to learn, are flexible and maintain a positive attitude.
