During the course of study in Chemistry I, students will study matter, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, chemical equations, stoichiometry, and acids. This course is designed to give the student who is planning to enter related fields of study a good background in chemistry.
The class unitizes a cooperative learning approach where students will have ample opportunity to work with classmates to develop a thorough understanding of chemistry concepts and to practice advanced lab skills. Chemistry I is heavily lab based, with many labs taking multiple class periods to complete. Labs are designed to introduce topics, develop deep understanding of concepts, practice lab techniques, and incorporate technology.
Students who are successful in Chemistry work collaboratively, are open and willing to learn, are flexible and maintain a positive attitude.
Honors Chemistry I is the second course for students completing the honors science curriculum at EHS. It is distinguished by students having previously completed Honors Integrated Science and enrolling in Chemistry I as a sophomore.
