If you’re interested in a career as a director, screenwriter, television reporter or anchor, video editor, or any role in the broadcast and film industry, the AVTF Pathway is for you.
In AVTF I, students learn the foundations of Audio/Video Technology & Film. This includes understanding camera and tripod components, mastering filming techniques such as composition, camera movement, shot types, and interviewing skills. Students also explore lighting and audio principles and learn the three phases of video production: pre-production, production, and post-production.
Students gain hands-on experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, the same industry-standard software used in professional broadcast and film environments. They also rotate through the seven primary studio production roles, learning the structure and workflow of a functioning studio environment.
In AVTF II, students build upon the skills learned in the introductory course while advancing into more complex filming techniques, studio production and management, live production, and field production. Students also begin working with Adobe After Effects, a powerful industry-standard motion graphics and visual effects program used to create animated titles, graphics, special effects, and broadcast-quality visual enhancements. This allows students to elevate their productions with professional-level graphics and visual storytelling techniques.
In AVTF III, students engage in advanced, project-based learning in both individual and collaborative settings. This course places a strong emphasis on real-world application, as students produce a variety of school system–wide projects that support individual schools as well as central office personnel. Through these authentic productions, students develop leadership skills, professionalism, time management, and the ability to work with clients in a real production environment.
