First off, thanks for asking this one! Please help your child (packing or buying) learn their lunch number. This is their school ID number and will stick with them. The quicker they can type it in, the less time they have to wait to eat. Students go in line to get their food and it can get busy. We have A LOT of buyers in kindergarten. Please practice this (even with packers) so that if they need to buy, they can type it in and get to their table to eat!
Next, it is really important that they know they should work on eating before talking. It isn't that we don't want them to talk, we know they need the socialization. They only have 30 minutes to eat, and this includes getting everything opened, buying lunch, waiting in line, and cleaning up. The more they talk, the less they tend to eat. We really don't want them to feel rushed or starving when its about time to clean up!
Also practice opening things they like to have for lunch and snack. Students often struggle to open items, and this takes more time away from eating. Although we don't have to wait long, it is always better when they can do it themselves.
Please encourage them to be kind to the lunch staff. This includes the ladies that get the trays and the teachers on lunch duty, and the custodians. Encourage kind words (please, thank you, excuse me) and to pick up their trash and messes as best they can so that someone else isn't stuck doing it. We know spills and big messes may require help, but trash, trays, and apple slices are easily cleaned up and students helping to keep their space clean really gives everyone a big hand of help!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO TO HELP YOUR CHILDREN AND HELP US AS WELL!
Lunch is $2.50 this year.
Any work that is sent home can be turned in with their purple folder when they return.
We can also accept work on Class Dojo if needed, just send your teacher a message and we can walk you through it.
When lessons need to be accessed at home, you can check your child's personal classroom website to see any read alouds or songs/videos we have used in class. If this is not sufficient, we can send more information to you.
Yes! You absolutely can send in a treat, HOWEVER, please do not send in any snacks that require cutting (like a full cake). Individual sealed chip bags, juice boxes, individual snack cakes, fruit snacks and similar items are great! Please be sure to ask your teacher how many students are in your child's classroom this year!
Due to privacy, we also do not have a call sheet for students to get phone numbers of their peers. If you are inviting all students, all girls, or all boys, we can pass those out for you. We ask you to have a chat with your child about talking about them at school so that it does not become a big topic of discussion with students who may have not received one.
All grade level and school-wide changes will be added to Class Dojo via the Class Story, a message, or School Story. You can also check the Kindergarten landing page. If it is for your classroom only, check your teacher's classroom page and Class Dojo. The school will often post to the Facebook page as well.
Please wait 24 hours before sending your child back to school. They must be fever free with no medication.
Yes! We will send home the work that is missed for that current day, and do our best to gather work for the next 24 hours until your child is able to return to school. We are happy to scan anything that is not prepared before pick up time to your email. If your child is too ill to work, we ask that your child completes their work within the first two days of returning to school to ensure they do not fall behind. We will be sure to reteach material to your child.
In the event that work is not sent home with your child, your child will complete what they can during the school day, and the rest of the work will be sent home for homework. You will have the same amount of time to finish as days your child missed.
Students will bring home graded work often. This will be in your child's purple folder. Please be sure to remove all work from the "Keep at Home" pocket on the right side of the folder. Things can easily fall out as work accumulates. This is for you to keep. Anything on the "Return to School" side should be looked at and read. There are some instances when it doesn't need returned, but we need to ensure you see the information. Most often, it is something you'll send back to school in that same pocket.
Your child's math tests will come home for a signature and be sent back to school. We want to ensure you have time to look over your child's test, but we keep them in the classroom to help them with any issues where they may be struggling. All tests will go home with your child at the end of the school year.
Yes. We would like ALL students to know their lunch number. Please practice this at home! Even packers will get a chance to earn a Bulldog Buck for knowing their number! This number will also get them breakfast at the end of the year.
Please, as a packer, help your child learn to open their lunch items and practice eating in a 30 minute time frame to help them get ready for school.
You sure can! Please be sure it is labeled and in an envelope or baggie with your child's name on it. Students can get very excited about this and take it out too early and it is easily lost. Names, teacher names, and what it is for is a good idea for any money coming into the building! We can shop every other Friday, when students are in the cafeteria. If the money comes in early, we will keep it until it is time to go to the bulldog store.
Yes, please! We have snack everyday between 2:30-2:45 and they have until we need to line up to eat their snack (3:00-3:05). Please be sure to pack something that can sit all day without going bad. We try to keep snacks in the classroom as backup, but there are times where we run out. Please let us know if there are any issues or concerns with this.
Send your child back to school with it every day. If it stops coming home, that is okay! We will eventually return them to the office. We do this once students have all gotten familiar with their classroom and getting on the correct school bus or going to the pick up line.
Unless your teacher says otherwise, please be sure to practice 1-2 books each evening. Once AR books come home, they can work on their AR book and choose a paper book if they wish. These books help to practice skills from the classroom while reading, especially sight words. Please put the books back in the baggie each evening and return them to school each day. It is also important that students take care of their books. Although we understand that they are paper, students should try their best to keep them flat and in decent condition while they are in their baggies. These books ARE acceptable for reading logs. Just write "baggie books" or the title of one of the books your child chose to read.
Some books may come home on the "keep at home" side of the purple folder (ex: Pumpkins math book). These can stay at home and do not need to go in the baggie. Books that go home on the "return to school" side will be in there because your child may have forgotten their baggie that day. Add those books to the baggie and send them back to school. We read these books during the day and in our reading time.
