Hello,
My name is Amy Haren. This is my eighth year teaching high school mathematics at Cosumnes Oaks High School. I have a very strong passion for education and strive to create life-long learners. When I am not in the classroom teaching the Slope Formula, I enjoy spending my time doing anything outdoors and hanging out with my two dachshunds.

I have a distinct childhood memory of doing my math homework one evening at the coffee table. I remember being in 5th grade and learning about fractions. I asked my dad for some help, and he had me bring him a ruler. I'll never forget sitting by his side and watching him show me on the ruler the difference between 1/2 and 1/4. Seeing what 1/4 of a whole looked like on the ruler, and how it was smaller than 1/2 was the "ah ha" moment that lead me to my love for math. It was learning experiences like this that lead me to my career in teaching.

Each student learns in his or her own unique way. All students deserve a teacher who is considerate of their diverse needs. In my classroom students will problem-solve, explain their reasoning, make connections, reflect on their thinking, use tools, communicate with their classmates, and represent their ideas with models. At times, students may become overwhelmed with not knowing the "right answer" causing them to shut down these mathematical processes. My goal as a teacher is to help students develop the skills necessary to use the mathematical processes in ways that fits their learning style.
Leo and Leah are my favorite fur-students.
