As authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, the Middle Years Program (MYP) is an officially recognized program of studies for students to make practicial connections between their academics and the real world.
According to the IB, the aims of the MYP is to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning. These students are empowered by inquiring into a wide range of issues and ideas inside and outside of the academic setting, resulting in creative, critical and reflective thinkers who will make our world a better place.
The only two schools within EGUSD who are officially authorized as I.B. World Schools are Harriet Eddy Middle School and Laguna Creek High School. These two schools were authorized as partnership schools allowed to offer the MYP by the IB in February 2017.
All students who matriculate at Harriet Eddy Middle School (HEMS) begin their MYP journey in grades 7 and 8.
Students who continue to matriculate at Laguna Creek High School (LCHS) in grades 9 and 10 complete their MYP journey at LCHS by the end of the 10th grade year.
As required by the IB, all students in grades 7 thru 10 at HEMS and LCHS are considered MYP students. Therefore, no further action by families and/or students is required to request that a student be enrolled in the MYP.
The culminating experience of the MYP is the completion of the Personal Project in 10th grade at LCHS. More information on the Personal Project may be found HERE (link forthcoming).
Once students complete the MYP, students have multiple options at LCHS to further their studies in the IB Diploma Program. More information on the Diploma Program may be found HERE.
